Wendy Finklea

Welcome to Clay Fish Studio, a place where it’s easy to be inspired by the amazing natural world of color, light and tactile textures of lush flora and lively fauna that surrounds our Florida home.

My journey and relationship with clay began long before I knew I would be a potter, admiring and collecting pieces made by others from around the world. Every culture, country, territory and even region of the US has an identifiable character that is usually centered around food and the traditions of serving others delicious sustenance with beautiful handmade tableware. Sufficiently inspired to last a lifetime, I’ve taken a 20-year deep dive into creating unique functional contemporary pieces that have been conceptualized through curious experimentation, employing various techniques that have been studied historically and developed by those potters before me. My direction continues to be inspired by design, function, glazes and firing schedules from ancient Japanese and Greek antiquities dating back thousands of years.

Throughout my creative process, my goal is to develop pieces for everyday use, to touch, hold and ponder, adorning your home and sharing food with those you love. As a low production studio potter, each piece I create brings deep satisfaction when I feel it will bring beauty, function and grace to your life.
